Microneedling| & PRP
Maybe you’ve heard of this treatment and been intrigued - a bloody facial? Or maybe that’s exactly why you have no interest in trying it for yourself! I’m here to tell you this treatment isn’t as scary as it sounds - it's actually my favorite treatment I provide to my clients! So what exactly is this ‘vampire facial’, and why should you consider it?
The vampire facial is a combination of microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP).
Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment where many small, fine needles are applied to your skin. These tiny needles create microscopic injuries to your face - which then triggers your body’s natural wound-healing process. This stimulates the production of collagen.
Collagen is a protein in your body that keeps your skin firm and elastic. As you age production decreases, causing skin laxity - one reason why wrinkles start to appear. Ramping collagen production back up is important for maintaining a youthful appearance. As microneedling stimulates your body to make more of it - you get tighter, brighter, smoother skin.
I always incorporate Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) into my microneedling treatments (a.k.a the vampire facial!). While the microneedling stimulates collagen production through the microscopic skin damage, adding in PRP improves skin healing - further boosting collagen production and overall skin renewal.
So What Exactly is “PRP”?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is exactly that - plasma (a component of your blood) that is rich in platelets. Platelets are a natural source of growth factors that promote rapid cell growth. It helps your body make new, healthy cells and quickens the healing process.
First, I draw your blood and place it into a centrifuge. This is a machine that spins super fast, and separates out the plasma from the rest of your blood.
Then, I’m able to take your plasma and apply it right to your face. Lastly, I finish off with the microneedling - allowing the plasma to penetrate more deeply into your skin. Now your platelets get to work healing your skin and stimulating brand new healthy cells to grow. PRP can also be injected into the same way dermal fillers are injected, instead PRP is going to boost and build collagen to the area for the long term (as opposed to the short term with fillers).
Ok- I get how the sound of this may totally creep you out. Blood and needles all over your face? But there’s a reason this is a popular, trending treatment. If you can get past the blood factor (and it’s your own blood - not someone else's!), and all the tiny needles (it’s not painful!) this treatment provides big, longterm benefits for your skin!
Benefits of Microneedling with PRP
This treatment specifically addresses a variety of tone and texture issues you may be experiencing to some degree. Most people will benefit from this facial! If you do not have any skin ‘issues’, consider this your new facial option. Do your regular facials help to boost and build your own collagen?!
Microneedling with PRP boosts collagen, and subsequently reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also minimizes the appearance of scarring. One thing that can be especially frustrating for many people is acne scars. You dealt with the breakouts which were bad enough - and now you’re constantly reminded by the scarring on your skin. As you age, they become even more noticeable as your skin loses collagen. These scars are difficult to conceal, and even harder to remove. Microneedling is an awesome treatment because it helps your skin heal itself. Big improvements are made in the tone and texture of the scars as your skin is evened out.
This same idea applies for other texture and tone concerns - such as stretch marks, large pores, and crepey under-eye skin. Microneedling also helps with tone problems - like melasma, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.
