A Facelift Without Surgery? Yes! Try PDO Threads

Are you noticing droopiness in your brow, cheeks, jowl, or neck? When you examine your face in the mirror, do you pull up a sagging area and think - if there was just an invisible string to hold this up - it’d be perfect!

This is the idea behind a new treatment I’ve added to my services at Polished MedSpa. PDO threads are a minimally invasive way to subtly achieve the results of a facelift, without going under the knife. No surgery, no downtime, and a fraction of the cost of a facelift!

PDO Threads - The Non-Surgical Facelift Solution

PDO threads, short for polydioxanone, is an FDA approved material that’s been used for decades in surgical procedures as dissolvable sutures.

These are tiny dissolvable threads that are inserted into the face, under your skin. When the threads are pulled, your skin is tightened. PDO threads provide the lift you’re looking for, from the inside out!

These threads are unique because they are strong, yet still biodegradable. They will eventually dissolve and reabsorb into your body within a few months. As this material disintegrates, it triggers your body’s natural healing process to start and collagen to form. As a key protein in your body - collagen provides the structure to your skin, keeping it firm and elastic.

A major benefit of this treatment is the longevity. Because your body grows more of its own collagen - the anti-aging effects of the treatment outlast the PDO threads after they dissolve. The PDO threads will break down within 4 to 6 months - but the effects will continue to last 12-15 months after this occurs!

How Do PDO Threads Work?

A thread is placed under your skin by a cannula. When the cannula is pulled out, the thread is left under the skin. Basically, the thread pulls the skin up and then ‘tacks’ it into place.

There are three types of threads.

1. Smooth threads. These are for superficial fine lines and wrinkles. They promote collagen production to plump up the area - reducing the appearance of the lines.

2. Twist threads. These work great for deeper wrinkles and folds. They are threads which have been coiled. They are used in the nasolabial folds and marionette areas but also in lips for subtle volumization.

3. Barbed threads. These threads have small ‘barbs’ on the threads that grip onto the skin when pulled on- lifting the skin and holding it in place. Barb threads take the weight off the tissue, giving more support and structure to the area. They provide the immediate lifting effect, and also stimulate collagen production as they break down.

How PDO Threads Can Help You

These threads are inserted into the skin and tighten and lift any problem areas you have - instantly! Do you notice any of the following?

  • Fine lines/wrinkles

  • Jowls

  • Drooping brow/lids

  • Nasolabial folds

  • Marionette lines

  • Sagging neck

PDO threads lift and support the eyebrow - giving you a quick, minimally invasive brow lift. When used in the lower face, they sharpen the jawline and minimize jowls. If your neck is sagging, PDO threads create support under your skin - tightening up this skin laxity.

This procedure is a great anti-aging tactic and works really well in combination with other treatments. Since the threads provide both a lifting and filling effect - the treatment augments the effects of Botox and fillers quite nicely.  You can actually get away with using less filler since PDO threads help you get more out of them. We can strategize the best plan for you for an all encompassing, facial rejuvenation.

While this may sound invasive (threads under the skin?) it’s a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure. You’re awake the whole time, and I use a local anesthetic at the injection sites to keep you comfortable. There’s no downtime, but consider that the procedure can cause some bruising - so you’ll want to plan your day accordingly.

Book an appointment at Polished MedSpa today to see if PDO threads are right for you!
