Botox VS. Fillers - What’s the Difference?

While Botox and fillers are both cosmetic injectables used to help enhance your appearance - the results they provide, and how they work - are very different! Despite what you’ve heard and the misinformation that’s out there - these products are definitely not interchangeable.

Botox and fillers work differently and achieve different results. We want you to understand this prior to getting started with your treatments!

When undergoing any type of aesthetic treatment, it’s important to educate yourself and to find a provider who takes the time to educate you. Here at Polished MedSpa we thoroughly explain every treatment and answer all of your questions.

Here are the basics of what you need to know about the differences between Botox and fillers.

What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name of a neurotoxin, often referred to as a ‘tox’. This product reduces visible signs of aging caused by repetitive muscle movements - such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.

Tox’s work by relaxing your facial muscles and preventing them from moving as much. The main ingredient is Botulism Toxin A. This substance temporarily blocks nerve receptors in the muscle, preventing movement. It causes your facial muscles beneath your skin to relax and stop contracting. The lack of movement prevents new wrinkles from forming, and current lines from deepening further. These injections are quick and last for several months.

While Botox has the brand recognition, there are several other products in the neurotoxin category. There are 3 other main wrinkle relaxers, and we use them all at Polished Med Spa! Dysport, Xeomin, and Jueveau each have slight nuances but accomplish the same goal - serving as a preventative measure in keeping wrinkles at bay! We can help you determine which product may be best for you.

What are Fillers?

Dermal facial fillers are cosmetic injectables that restore volume and fullness in the face. Fillers are versatile and help with a variety of different aesthetic concerns. Fillers can be used to plump up thin lips, soften wrinkles and facial creases, and enhance shallow cheek contours.

At Polished MedSpa, we use Juvederm and Restylane - which are products made with Hyaluronic Acid (HA). This injectable is a smooth gel-like substance that adds volume and also attracts water molecules to the area. This plumps the area up while also replenishing moisture and hydration in your skin.

Depending on where you’d like to add definition and volume - we can help determine which product would work best for you. Whether it’s helping get rid of under eye circles, softening laugh lines, or enhancing your lips - we have a filler for you to achieve a healthy, youthful appearance.

Tox and Fillers - Better Together

So while fillers and tox’s are very different in active ingredients and how they actually work - using them together can help you achieve the results you’re looking for. For example, when it comes to beating wrinkles - fillers help plump up your skin and soften the line, while a tox will prevent the line from deeping and getting worse with time.
