5 Tips for Glowing Healthy Skin This Summer

Don’t let your skin take a backseat during the busy summer months! Longer hours of daylight and warm weather means more time spent enjoying the outdoors. This calls for a renewed focus on your skin to maintain its health and appearance.

Follow these tips to keep your complexion glowing and radiant this summer!

Prioritize Sun Protection

If you’re only going to take away one piece of advice to actually implement - let this be it! Sun protection is the most important thing you can do for your skin this summer (and year round!) If you want to avoid skin cancer and prevent premature aging - starting with adequate sun protection is a must.

Apart from applying sunscreen everyday (and re-applying often) consider other ways to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays. Know that 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is when the sun’s rays are the strongest, so it’s the best time to be diligent about seeking shady areas.

Wear sun-protective clothing like wide-brimmed hats and lightweight long-sleeved clothing. And don’t forget your sunglasses! Not only will shades keep you from squinting all day and developing crow’s feet - they help protect the delicate skin around your eyes that’s often the first to show signs of aging.

ZO Skin Health has a wide variety of sunscreen products to choose from. Let me know if you need help selecting the best one for you!

(And no - you really don’t need that ‘base-tan’ -  it’s not a substitute for sunscreen! Remember, there’s no such thing as a healthy tan. Try out a spray tan if you’re really wanting a dark summer glow! Your future self will thank you.)

Exfoliate Regularly

During the hottest months of the year, your skin is bound to be subjected to more sweat, dirt, and sunscreen. More oil, grime, and bacteria equals more clogged pores - so exfoliating is key to prevent breakouts and inflammation. By removing the top layer of dead skin cells, your new skin will give you a renewed and glowing complexion.

The ZO Exfoliating Polish is an effective product to remove these dead skin cells and reveal smoother, brighter skin. The ZO Complexion Renewal Pads also help get rid of the excess oils and debris that cause your pores to clog.

Moisturize Daily

Summer heat, sun, chlorine, and air conditioning can all dry out your skin. Even if you’re feeling more sweaty or oily in the summer months - still incorporate a moisturizer into your daily routine. Apply your moisturizer after you clean your face to keep your skin barrier strong and your complexion refreshed and glowing.

ZO Skin Health Daily Power Defense is a great product to relieve dry skin, soothe irritation, and replenish your skin’s natural moisture.

Drink More Water

Staying hydrated is key for your body AND your skin - so make drinking plenty of water in the hot summer months a priority. You lose more water through perspiration in the heat, so pack that water bottle when you’re on the go to ensure you’re getting enough.

Drinking water helps flush out toxins, promotes clear skin, reduces puffiness, and increases skin elasticity. Aim for at least 64 ounces a day!

Use a Vitamin C Serum

If you don’t already have a product with Vitamin C as part of your skincare regime - summer is a great time to get started! Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps protect your skin from environmental stresses (aka the sun!) and helps with lightening hyperpigmentation. Since we tend to develop more dark spots from the sun in the summertime, Vitamin C helps to combat this. It also aids in skin hydration, reducing wrinkles, and boosting collagen. ZO Skin Health 10% Vitamin C Self- Activating is an effective product that brightens skin and promotes more even skin tone.

Another fan favorite brightening product?: ZO Skin Health Brightalive. This brightener contains NO retinol and NO hydroquinone, but still manages to increase luminosity, visibly improve skin clarity and fade the appearance of dark spots for a brighter, more even complexion, clinically proven!

Keep these tips in mind as you enjoy the summer months! And don’t forget to book an appointment with us to keep your skin beautiful for summers to come.
