What to Do Before & After Your Botox and Filler Treatment
Botox and fillers are a great way to enhance your natural beauty and provide a youthful, refreshed appearance. While we love to work our magic here at Polished MedSpa, there are things we want you to do before and after your injections to maximize your results - while minimizing any potential side effects. Here are our recommendations of what to do (and not do!) before and after your treatments.
Before Your Injectable Appointment
Here’s the breakdown:
Avoid Blood Thinners: For at least one week before your appointment, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen (Aleve), and other blood-thinning medications unless prescribed by your doctor. These can increase the risk of bruising.
Limit Alcohol and Caffeine: Refrain from consuming alcohol and excessive caffeine 24 hours before your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling.
Review Your Supplements: Avoid supplements like vitamin E, fish oil, and ginkgo biloba one week prior as they can thin your blood and increase bruising. We suggest taking Arnica tablets, which you can find over the counter. This homeopathic herb helps reduce bruising. We also use Arnica gel during your appointment to help smooth out filler once it’s placed.
Prep Your Skin: Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup, lotions, or other products. This helps reduce the risk of infection.
Share Any Health Conditions: Let us know if you have any active infections, cold sores, or skin conditions in the treatment area.
You Post-Injectable Treatment Instructions
Here’s our top recommendations once we finish up and send you home!
Immediate Care Tips: Do not rub or massage the treated area for at least 24 hours to prevent the product from migrating. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun or heat exposure for 24 hours post-treatment to reduce swelling and bruising.
Ice Application: Apply a cold pack to the treated area for short periods to reduce swelling and discomfort.
Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to help your body heal and maintain the longevity of your results. Just avoid a straw for 48 hours after lip filler though!
Avoid Certain Activities: Refrain from lying down or bending over for at least 4 hours after Botox to prevent the product from spreading to unintended areas. Avoid facials, massages, or any skin treatments in the treated area for at least two weeks.Try not to sleep on the treatment area right away either.
Makeup: You can apply makeup gently after 24 hours. Ensure your hands are clean and use non-comedogenic products to avoid irritation.
Monitoring: Observe the treated area for any unusual side effects such as severe swelling, redness, or an allergic reaction. Contact your provider if you experience any concerning symptoms.
Patience: Don’t judge your results too quickly! Fillers may take a few days to settle, while Botox results can take up to two weeks to fully appear.
These pre and post-treatment guidelines will help you achieve the best possible outcome and ensure a smooth recovery! Ready for a mid-summer refresh? Book an appointment with us today and let’s get started.
